WHAT IS IMMERSION?

The idea behind the immersion method is that our brains are pattern recognition machines. If we are exposed to meaningful language enough times we will acquire the words and structures and develop comprehension. Deliberate learning strategies like reading grammar explanations and reviewing flashcards can boost the speed of our acquisition and reduce friction, but the idea of immersion learning is that you gain the language naturally through being exposed to it, rather than memorizing word lists or doing grammar drills.

It doesn't suit everyone and it requires a daily time commitment but it's the approach that gels best for me and I would recommend serious language learners give a go if they are feeling curious. In my experience it's a really enjoyable way to learn and gives you the opportunity to have a more rewarding relationship with your target language.
